"a strange quirk in my clapping" Hey Mike. I'm quirky about this myself. I ALWAYS give 50 claps. I can't help it. But that's because I ONLY clap on stories that I leave a Response for. I feel like if it's good enough to leave a response (no matter my view of the content), it's worthy of my maximum applauds for the writer's effort. But that's just me. Now, I guess I have to rethink things, but honestly, I could use the break. I even clap on many of the comments left on my stories :-)
