"Do you not think that would be a very strange request indeed? " Personally, a request for more pics from different angles would have definitely pissed me off. I think it's okay that you didn't feel her photo adequately represented her, so you felt some kind of way. I suspect she purposely meant for that to be the case. Not everyone handles awkward situations the same way, so your actions are understandable to me, but that's just my opinion :-)
