" I wanted my daughter to see that these social issues exist everywhere." You also helped her prepare her mind for the possibility of running into this type of ignorant behavior in the workplace. Sometimes, even though we don't get it, our unique offspring, don't feel as bothered as we think, as they continue to walk to the beat of their own drum. As a small and only child, my son would sit in the house playing alone contentedly, until the neighbor kids would come and seek him out. He never initiated first contact to go play. He's been that way his whole life, so much so, that I worry about his social skills or ability to interact, but apparently he doesn't. He reaches out to friends when he feels like being bothered. Other times, he's perfectly happy being to himself. He's 41. Go figure...?
