I'm not sure if I could be truly comfortable in this guy's presence again, unless we chopped it up and talked things out, so I knew exactly what happened before, and could be certain it wouldn't happen again. He owes you that much, if he really wants to be graced with your company again. I say contact him in advance, and see what's up. Like you said, you have nothing to lose, so why wait.
