It's nice to hear that you're doing so well, writing fiction. Actually, from what I've read, not all fiction writers experience this. And as for stories getting buried. The same thing happens here with all content, no matter what it is. It's up to the writers to try and promote their own work and keep it relevant. It sucks, but that's how it is :-)
