"Meanwhile, I will be spending some time with the neighbor X." While I agree, sometimes you have to shake things up, but jumping out of the frying pan, and into the fire just ain't the way. I say kick that damn loser "X" to the curb, and come back home where you belong. If you're in doubt, just look at how poorly he treats all his other lovers :-)
