No problem new girl :-) First you have to do a "search" for the publications that you want to write for, then "follow" the publication, so when you click the "publication" tab in the drop down menu, all the publications you follow will be listed. Once you've applied for a publication and they put you on as a writer, when you view your list of publications that you follow, next to the publication title it will say "writer" which indicates you're good to start submitting your drafts, via the procedure you mentioned.
