Passive Income Trends in 2025
How much do you trust the Google search results?
Just like thousands of other online creators who may be looking to increase their online earnings this year, I’ve been on the lookout for smart ways to develop additional income streams.
In case you haven’t heard, I recently found myself visiting 7 different money making opportunities that I once was drawn to, but then I slowly drifted away, for one reason or another.
I wrote and shared the details about each one, but even though I knew I had the right idea, by deciding to recommit to these platforms, I still found myself searching on Google, and looking for even more ways to generate money online.
Besides being provided with several new ideas about how to tap into a few additional income streams; I was delighted to notice some of the very same suggestions that I was already following on my own.
This served to convince me that I must definitely be on the right track.
Notice what was revealed, regarding the most popular and effective money making trends this year, especially for those individuals hoping to earn a passive income.
Google search results for 2025 passive income
I took some time to carefully view the Google search results for certain terms, including: “2025 passive income”.
Naturally, there were some very specific phrases being thrown around, such as: “easy money”, or “best passive income”, and of course, a variety of different money related terms like: cash flow, or revenue ideas.
But I also noticed that many of the articles Google cited, were quick to include reassuring words in their descriptions, such as “legitimate”, “safe” and “effective”.
I personally found these type of stories to be the most useful, as I considered the suggestions they provide about earning money online.
By contrast, there were also lots of stories that clearly had no substantial information to offer, and very little worthwhile food for thought.
With so many users being desperate to create a source of reliable online income, it’s no wonder that the topic is so popular and being written about. However, readers are unable to benefit from content that is so general, that it fails to provide the kind of specifics like you find in the quick suggestions listed below.
👉 As you look over this list and consider the various options mentioned, allow the information to help you start thinking outside the box. And be sure to take advantage of the links you see cited, so you can go visit and learn more about the opportunities for yourself.
Here’s how people are earning money online in 2025:
Affiliate Marketing
You can earn by promoting products or services from other companies and receive a commission for each sale made as a result of your unique affiliate link. Not only is Amazon among the many affiliate programs that you can become an associate for, but there are countless opportunities to earn from them, apart from offering available products in their marketplace. They have outstanding programs you can promote and earn from. LEARN MORE
Data Entry
If you can perform data entry, you can get jobs from platforms such as Freelancer, where they list data entry jobs for individuals who can complete them in a timely way.
Freelancing
All sorts of “gigs” are available if freelancing is what you’re comfortable doing. Platforms such as Upwork and Fiverr are just two among many, that offer creators a huge range of freelancing opportunities to take advantage of. Writers, and graphic designers, do well on both these sites, not to mention individuals who can perform tech support or work as virtual assistants. I’ve used both platforms in the past, but I must admit, personally, I’m more of a Fiverr fan. LEARN MORE
Gaming
The ability to get paid for gaming related activities is catching on like fire, especially those with a large following on platforms like Twitch, where they allow you streamers to monetize. You receive money from virtual cheers from your viewers, or “Bits,”. Reaching Affiliate or Partner status, entitles you to get a share of subscription and ad revenue. This is just one of the ways that your love of gaming can earn you money online.
Influencer
It’s no secret that if you have a large dedicated following on popular platforms like Instagram, Tik Tok, and Youtube, you can get paid for representing products and recommending them to your audience. The same is true for being a rep for products sold via Amazon. Those who seriously hope to create an income stream in this way, need to be aware that this option is super challenging, if you’re starting with little or no followers to speak of.
Recommendations
Learning to generate an online income stream by creating and providing recommendations, is really a form of affiliate marketing. However, I’m mentioning this option separately, because in many cases, it’s also like being an influencer, but not exactly. For instance, you can get paid to create a variety of lists on Benable, by recommending brand products and services, and earning commissions from the sales. LEARN MORE
Selling Digital Products
If you can create ebooks, templates, graphics, or other types of useful online courses, you can get paid to sell them on a variety of different platforms, including: Teachable, Shopify, Etsy, and more. These sites make it easy to set things up and get started selling your products. Gumroad is a popular favorite for doing this, which is why I use it. LEARN MORE
Selling Tangible Products
Digital products aren’t the only things you can sell on some of these platforms and get paid for the privilege. Items like T-shirts, coffee mugs, magnets, stickers, and more, can all be personalized and sold, via platforms such as Printify. They give you a free product creator tool that allows you to design a product right on the spot. Of course it’s up to you to promote the products on whichever e-commerce platforms you happen to be connected to. Even Amazon lets you get in on this type of selling option that they call: “Merch on Demand”. You simply upload your work, slap a price tag on it, and leave the printing and shipping to Amazon whenever an item sells.
Sell Stock Photos
Chances are, if you’re already used to using Canva for the photos you include in your online stories, you know what a popular site they are for finding great graphics. But did you know that you can sell your stock photos online, especially if you have good photography skills and you enjoy taking pictures. Platforms like Shutterstock or Adobe Stock provide options to do this, in addition to the popular Canva website. LEARN MORE
Surveys and Tasks
Quite frankly, I’m always mildly amused to find taking surveys among the options that people suggest for making money online. I’ve dibbled and dabbled with this in the past, but never with any success — not even mildly. Yet, sites like Swagbucks and JumpTask were included in the search results for 2025 passive income trends. With these type of opportunities to get paid, you simply perform various tasks and surveys within a designated time, and that’s how you quickly earn cash on these sites.
Transcription
Transcription jobs can be found similar to other task specific freelance opportunities (like was already mentioned), but also, instead of freelancing and hiring yourself out by the gig, you can create your own transcription service. This is perfect if you have strong listening and typing skills and you want to do this exclusively, on an ongoing basis.
Tutoring
Offering consultations for a fee is an option you can find on sites where digital products are sold, but there are also other options if you have expertise in certain subjects. Platforms such as ProProfs or Chegg are sites that allow you to offer tutoring services that you can get paid to provide.
Website & User Testing
If spending time checking out new apps is something that appeals to you, you’ll be delighted to know that you can get paid to test websites or try out new apps and provide crucial usability feedback. One such site that pays, is User Testing, and another is UserPeek. My personal opinion on this, is pretty much similar to what I mentioned about “survey taking”, however, the Google search results suggest that this is among the popular income sources that people seem to be attracted to, and presumably find effective.
If these are the trends that people are leaning towards, who am I to say otherwise?
What to keep in mind about passive income trends
No matter which of the above trends you find interesting enough to look into deeper, there are still some important points to keep in mind.
- Stand out from the competition
Even though passive income opportunities tend to be competitive, you want to always do your best to offer quality products and services, so that you stand out in a positive way.
- Be consistent and show up
If you want your new income stream to be effective on a consistent basis, you must be prepared to exert the necessary effort, dedication, and commitment, by showing up on a consistent basis.
- Keep honing skills
Remember that you will need to continue honing your existing skills and keep building on your prior experience, even as you discover, apply, and perform more and more online jobs and tasks.
- Prioritize your time
Trying to generate and earn a worthwhile side income online is something that will require you to prioritize your time. Many methods may seem to offer quick earnings, however, more than likely, you will still be required to dedicate a substantial amount of time and effort in the beginning, while you’re just getting started.
- Maintain patience
Above all else, when it comes to trying to implement one or more of these methods of generating passive income, you must be prepared to be patient. Keep in mind, just like Rome wasn’t built in a day, more than likely, you will not be able to see the results you hope for overnight. Be patient and give it a chance.
Final Thoughts
Now that you know what other content creators and busy entrepreneurs are doing to make money this year, perhaps you’ll find yourself rethinking the way you view some of these platforms and income opportunities.
I encourage readers to look further into this topic for yourselves, whether you use Google’s search engine, or you resort to some other method for finding answers about passive income trends in 2025.
