Whether you’re a new online writer, or a writer who has been around for a long time, you’re probably familiar with the expression: Evergreen content.

When it comes to the question of choosing categories to write stories about on Medium, there’s no way that the topic of evergreen stories does not come up.

For those who need a quick update on what exactly is an evergreen story, all you really need to know is: Evergreen stories will always have an audience, because they typically don’t have a shelf life.

We’re talking about writing stories that relate to subjects that pretty much unchangeable.

To learn and understand a little more on this subject, take a few minutes later on, to check out:

Evergreen stories are definitely the way to go, when deciding on the kind of topics to write about.

When you think evergreen; think topics that deal with ideals, emotions, or behavior:

  • Humanity
  • Life lessons
  • Relationship observations

Those are some of the categories that don’t typically change in the way the subject matter is commonly viewed.

Though this can often be one of the best forms of writing that a Medium writer can add to their portfolio, this is not the only way to go, when selecting categories and themes.

As we go a step further and consider some other beneficial ways decide on what to write about, pay particular attention to the fact that Medium writers get to make money in other ways, while ALSO in the process of earning money for their story views.

See what I mean, as you continue reading…

Writing about products, services, or anything of value

I shared a story titled: “Best Practices For Writing On Medium For New Members!”

One of the things I touched on, was a previous point I made, about “why I write about the topic of “writing”, and in particular, about writing and earning money on Medium.

The main point I attempted to emphasize in that story, was the crucial need for content creators to write stories that add value to reader’s life (or at least that provides a good reading experience).

Needless to say, you can’t go wrong, writing for writers, about the issues related to writing (unless you don’t actually have a clue about what you’re writing).

This is why, even though Medium affords us an opportunity to write about anything we want, it makes good common sense, that you try and select topics you know something about, particularly from a personal perspective.

This type of content can go a long way with readers, even when writing viewpoints, or product reviews about books, entertainment, and even affiliate products.

Notice the tips concerning…

Write about products you can actually benefit from

It can be extremely encouraging, for new writers and members to the community, to see all the promotional opportunities available on Medium.

This popular freelance writing platform provides even new members the chance to write about and promote products and services that may benefit them in some form or fashion.

The following 5 stories are prime examples of how your personal connection to products or services, can add more value to the related stories you write and publish.

These were my personal experiences:

Can you see how writing on Medium lets you to take advantage of the opportunity to write about affiliate products, or any other businesses or services you represent, endorse, or support?

That’s the whole beauty of the Medium writing platform. You have the chance to write about what you want, and usually there’s an audience somewhere for what you publish — just as long as you give some readers what they need.

Note that I said “some” readers, because as we all know, “you can’t please all of the people all of the time.”

But as you may have noticed from the stories I cited above, there are plenty of ways for you to writhe about what you want or like to write about, and still offer readers something of value.

The question is, will you do that?

Final Thoughts

Based on the contents of this story, you may have drawn the conclusion that there really are some categories that could be considered the “best” ones to write for in 2024?

That means that every new writer’s focus should be on finding ways to continue learning how to give readers what they want!

You can start by:

  • Paying attention to what people are talking about or complaining about the most
  • Whether it’s a trending topic or an ongoing conversation, try to find the “need” connected to the reader’s interest in the topic
  • Address the issue from your own perspective or experience, and add value in that way

Do this, and every category you write about in 2024, will seem like it’s the very best one.
