Wow! What a wonderful trip down Memory Lane! I was born in May 1958 and I remember drive-ins all too well. I live in California, where we have at least one left for sure. The Century is gone now, but it's the one that used to be located near LAX and the planes would always disrupt the sound. For years, I thought that happened at all drive-ins, until I got older and visited different ones. I took my son Michael to his first one at age 4 and we saw Honey I Shrunk the Kids. I pushed him on the swings during intermission. Good times, good times. - I miss those days. Coincidentally, not only did I just watch Valley of the Dolls this past week, but I just published a story about watching television back in the day. I had so many connections to the story you just shared, that I bolded them all. Thanks for sharing Michael :-)
