Some people are so confident in their product, whatever it happens to be, that they take for granted that it's supposed to sell itself; and maybe it will, once people actually know what it is and where to get it. For that, you need to advertise. That's how I feel about building my catalog of stories. I spend a lot of time, energy, and even money on occasion, to make people know my stories exist, while trying to balance the desire to continue writing.
